Please Note:
If you are following my Belly Fat Cure book the carbs I recommend there are the "belly good" carbs.  Gary is explaining that excessive sugar and processed carbohydrates are the ones causing damage to us as a culture.

Fantastic interview!! I love Gary's book as well as yours Jorge. Sugar is so bad and we all eat too much of it! Too many bad carbs too. Please send more videos! Love them and keeping me motivated! Lost 13 pounds on The Belly Fat Cure so far. LOVE IT!

That was a very authoritative and informative interview, but left me with only one question...What about all of the carb recipes in your book, "The Belly Fat Cure?" I am currently eating off your one-week menu: "Carb Lover." Should I stop this and go to another one?

Dear Ken --- the carb recipes in the book are specially designed to allow you to still enjoy "good" carbs and satisfy your sweet tooth. So no worries. YOU WILL BE GREAT!
So happy you enjoyed the video.

I am glad to receive this video today. I was struggling with having had no weight loss during my first week and wondering if I was just following a blind path again. But Taubes makes such GOOD sense. I am going back to the website to view your videos again and to boost my morale and motivation to stay strong and stick this out.

January 15, 2010 | Unregistered Commenteroldcollegegal

I think much of this makes sense. I've been a woman of many sizes. I can lose weight, but have yet to find a way to keep it off. I agree that diets and extreme exercise don't work in the long run. I've had periods where I've worked with a personal trainer and exercising daily at a gym. Once I stopped the weight piled back on. I know the answer is something you can maintain for life. I'm willing to try the Belly Fat Cure, and I believe it will help me lose weight. Will it help me keep it off?

Happy Mommy - Great on losing 13 pounds - how long has this taken you? I see lots of weight loss stories in the book, but no one states how long it took. I find with planning menu the food is great and I'm making the entire family eat this new lifestyle.

January 15, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTexasGal

What Taubes is saying makes sense, but I too have been on the diet for nearly two weeks with no results - in fact, I have gained a pound! I have not strayed from the diet a single bit and I have been less than the sugars allowed almost every day, and many times even less the carbs allowed. Is there a point where this is going to kick in? When you talk about hormones, it makes me wonder because I am post-menopausal. Also, I am only twenty pounds overweight - does that mean it takes longer?

January 15, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDEB

I'm sorry Dr. Oz got shot down, but I see Dr. Weil's point. I know if Dr. Oz was given subsequent air time, he'd have made his point, whatever that was going to be. I think these guys are in agreement about the sugar/carb scenario. I thought this interview was AWESOME! My only disappointment was that The Belly Fat Cure didn't get a plug, but Dr. Weil does have his own diet/lifestyle ideas, so I can't really fault him.

I am starting to recruit friends and family to join me in the BFC. :) I have several interested parties, and a few of them are actually ready to try it out this week. Others will have to process the info some more, realize there is hope for THEM to lose weight, and get themselves to a place where they can plug into the BFC. I haven't checked out Dr. Weil's plan, but I cannot imagine anything more simple than counting S/C Value. We have the same food bank we have grown to love, and all we have to do is Swap out the bad stuff, Swap in the good stuff, and keep on eating the items that have been good for us all along. I find it very rewarding to coach people, and I am developing a stepwise process to introduce people to the program. I am going to be thrilled when they all become ballerinas! :)

Also, I have had to cinch up my own pants and am excited about my weekend project to sort through my wardrobe and toss out all those terribly fat clothes!!! Hooray!

I have lost about 3# so far and have found it is not that hard to not eat the sugar. I think really it is all about the awareness. If your aware how much sugar is in everything we eat you will really try to strive to find the low or no sugar items. It is working great for us so far. We have stuck to it for about a week so far since I first saw Jorge on tv and decided this was what we needed to do.

I have had your book and been on the 15 grams of sugar and the 6 serving of carbs, I love it I'm never hungry.have no cravings,I enjoyed your news letter Dr Weil is confirming how carbs react on my body. I will continue following S/C Value I will keep you posted on my weight loss and Health changes.

Jorge,
Gary Taubes in brilliant. I saw him a few weeks ago on a webcast he did in late 2007. It is 90 minutes long and goes into the history and great detail furthering the discussion you had with him here. The link is http://webcast.berkeley.edu/event_details.php?webcastid=21216

Question for you Jorge. I have less then 10 pounds to lose and have followed the BFC dilligently for two weeks with no loss. I have written down everything I have eaten to be sure I am following it correctly. My thought is perhaps the carb servings are too high for those of us with less weight to lose. I am trying 4 servings a day instead and wonder what your thoughts are.
Thanks

I love the video. Great information. I am following the Belly Fat Cure recommendations. I can wait to see results. I just have a problem ,finding the right products. For example, I look for the Clemys ice cream, went to the website, look for the retailers. I went to four different stores Clemy's claim to distribute their product, None of them carry their product, and is in their website!. I sent them an e-mail, and they never responded. You can order it by mail, but the shipping prices are ridiculous!

Really interesting video - thank you for posting it. The BFC program has helped my wife & me not only lose weight, but feel so much better. I've been able to eliminate meds for diabetes & my wife for BP, so I consider that in itself an amazing benefit. We are in our late 60's & are so happy to have found a new way to live! Thank you, Jorge and your team.

Thank you for posting this video and making it available on YouTube. This message is vital to the future health of our country. American's have been mislead for so long that they don't know what is true and what is a lie anymore. If everyone gets back to basics, which includes eating fewer refined carbs, there won't be a healthcare crisis but changes must be made now or it will be too late.

I enjoyed the videos. I just started reading your book the belly fat cure. I have been trying to follow the diet. So far my biggest problem is that so many of the allowed food items have to be purchased from health food stores. So I tend to stick to simple food items that start to get boring. The cost of these items are a factor also. I don't like to keep track of numbers so if I dont eat enough good carbs will this slow down my weight loss? I don't have alot to lose however my belly is 2" too big.

Hi Jorge,

The first interview with you was great, but the second one was not something I'd recommend to anyone. I watched a ninety minute interview through Dr.Mercola's website on sugar namely fructose, high fructose corn syrup and and glucose. It was VERY enlightening to hear the where it all came from and why it's in so many of our foods and what's it doing to our health. I think more people would be receptive to changing their eating habits if they heard the facts and how it's impacting their health.

I have five children from the ages of 14 - 4 years old and they've all adjusted just fine to a sugar free, gluten free way of eating as have my husband and I. We're heading into our third week and all of our clothing is a lot looser. It was a week into our sugar free/gluten free way of eating when I saw your interview with a morning show. It just solidified and encouraged me even more with what I'd just learned. So thank you for these great videos they are encouraging for sure. My only complaint is that my body has to be one of the most stubborn and I'm surprised that it hasn't shed much and seems to be really slow, but hopefully that will change soon.

THanks for a great support!

I thought the interview was fabulous! It is very exciting to see some people in the medical community shift their attention away from the denigration of obese patients and actually look at greater causal issues. Thank you Jorge for making this available. I, too, have been working on the bfc and have struggled with all the issues folks mention above - I can get thru the day without all the carbs bt staying within the 15 grams of sugar is the killer for me. I, too, have been trying to find the ice cream to no avail and having the workst luck finding a sweetener I like - I can't stand them!! I need to go back to the beginning and start over again - I now have the new book and I believe that will be very helpful. agd49

At first I got excited about what I was hearing from Jorge because for YEARS I've been saying that the whole calorie theory was wrong. I can lose weight with extra calories or gain weight with less calories. Stress affects my weight (I lose it) even though I'm eating, for example. But, after seeing this video, I am very concerned that this is going the way of the HORRID HORRID Atkins Diet. Carbs are not evil. I'm a size 0 vegan who eats carbs. Please don't tell people sprouted grain bread is bad.

My husband and I have been stringent on your plan since your new book debuted over 2 weeks ago. We both have right about 40 lbs. to lose. He and I eat the same every day, and track our intake diligently. He's lost nearly 12 lbs., and I've waivered on 1 lb. up and down. I know there's a difference in weigth loss pace between men and women, but is this due to a family history in insulin production?? I have massive diabetes on both sides of my fam, and he just has big bellies on his side.

I have lost 11 lbs so far on the BFC. This loss has occurred in 2 weeks. I am very pleased with the results. I have tried "low carb" approaches before. These "diets" have left me hungry much of the time. I have not felt at all deprived with the BFC. I am being very careful to include 30 or more grams of fiber on a daily basis. The introduction of psyllium has helped to keep the fiber level up without the consumption of excessive carbohydrates. I believe that the reduction of sugar, keeping an eye on carb levels, and consistent levels of fiber intake will prove to be a long term win. I have already lost 1 1/2 inches from my waist measurement. It works!

I read some interesting questions on the many posts and would like to know where do we go to see your response to the questions. Several addressed that due to only having 10 lbs to lose, even after being on it faithfully for several weeks they had not lost. I would enjoy reading your responses to questions like this to keep us informed.

I, too, am so excited about this new eating plan - it is so easy to follow. By day 4 on the plan, I noticed how much better I felt and all my cravings have left me. I lost 4 lbs. the first week and will be anxious to see what week 2 brings on Monday. Its not so much about the weight with me but getting my blood sugar down - borderline type 2 diabetes is my problem and I read the weight around the middle contributes to that condition. This seems to be a plan that I can do forever - unlike most diets that concentrate on deprivation. I also was wondering how long it took for those people in the book to lose the weight and inches. Thanks for a great book!

i just wanted to tell you that i am happy to learn all of this. i began your plan 3 days ago and have already lost 6lbs. the first day was difficult to stay within the 15 g of sugar but after going shopping and educating myself on the amount of sugar almost everything contains i was able to make better food choices. i love the suggestion for almond milk. it is delicious and stevia helps sweeten anything i want a little sweeter. thank you for wanting to help.

I have struggled with weight my since I was in 5th grade...infact I became a Lifetime member of Weight Watchers in 7th grade, tried every diet through out the years, and then eventually had the Gastric Bypass done almost 5 years ago. Since then I've had 2 children and kept the extra 20 pounds. I started on the BFC almost 2 weeks ago after the book came out. I can't say enough about it. In the first week I lost 6 pounds and haven't had this much energy in a LONG time. I feel awesome! I feel so much better about myself and am proud that I have converted to a healthy lifestyle of eating. The scales didn't move during this second week, however I can already tell a difference in all my clothes. I LOVE IT!!! I feel satisfied, don't have any cravings and enjoy the food I eat. I passed the book onto my parents to read and they are on board as well and doing awesome too. I can't thank you enough Jorge!! :)

My husband and I have been on the diet for approx. 2 weeks. We both feel a lot better but I haven't really seen any weight lost. I lost 2 lbs. and then gained it back. We are committed to making this work but are wondering if it takes longer for women than men to see the results. Also, I have found most of the food listed but had to visit multiple healt food stores which can get expensive so we will have to limit the diet to some of the basics. Thanks for the support and keep sending the emails for inspiration!!

Hi Jorge,

Thanks for the videos. It's nice to know that these well known experts agree with your research. I'm on your program and I am having success. I like your swap suggestions. I agree with Dr. Weil about needing some carbs and that you should evaluate your own needs. I love how you make it simple to choose and track carb servings..

Thanks for the great interview with Gary! It keeps me motivated and gets me back on track after the holidays and enjoying some of the seasonal sweets that I love. I was able to lose ~50 lbs. in 3 months last year and I never really felt deprived. I am encouraging everyone who asks me to try it too. I appreciate hearing the science behind the BFC--real science and not just data/ideas pulled from the air that sound nice. Keep up the great work!

Great interview! It is good to have a frequent reminder of why I am doing this. After way too many diets and failures, I find that the Belly Fat Cure is easy to follow without hunger! I do miss my fruits at this point, and will find a way to eat smaller portions of them so I can enjoy them at least once a day. I tried this for one week, lost 5 pounds, then went on a sales trip and ate in restaurants, trying to follow the diet. I gained all 5 pounds back! Since returning home 4 days ago (and finally finding the BFC book in stock at Costco), I have lost 4.8 pounds again, and feel like this is the way I can eat for the rest of my life. I have always believed that butter and lard are the best fats a person can use for cooking. Look at our grandparents, who had never heard of margarine or Crisco. They were healthy and thin. I will keep you posted and continue on the BFC . I am 61 years old. THANK YOU, JORGE!

My hubby and I have been counting carbs (6) and sugar grams (15) each day for approx 10 days. I have lost 3 pounds and he has lost 5 pounds. I love the simplictiy of this. I read EVERY label when I shop and it has blown my mind how many sugar grams are in food. We do not feel deprived. I work very hard in planning the eating for the day so that we stay within our allotment. Learning to like Ezekiel bread! I shop organic about 80% of the time and eat only veggies from local farmers and farmers markets. No more sugar cravings. Clemmy ice cream is awesome. Thanks, Jorge. You rock.

Hi Jorge!
Thanks for your book!
Me and my husband have been on it for less than 2 weeks. I've lost 6 lbs and 3 inches. My husband's lost around 8 lbs and 6 inches. YAY!!!
We are really happy with BFC!
I would like to know how can I see old videos and how can I print the PDF copy of the S/C planner?
Thanks for all your support!

I am heartened and dismayed by these comments because finally I hear many people with stories like my own. After 2 weeks of strictly adhering to the plan, and after countless $$ spent at health food stores and specialty grocery stores, I have a net loss of 0.4 lbs. I, too, have diabetes in my family although I am not at risk myself. I need to lose 30 lbs. I am post-menopausal - how does this play into the hormonal aspect of the diet. The good news is that I have had no cravings for sweets and, feel better, I purchased so much stuff to keep me going for a couple more weeks, so I will continue. I have certainly started reading the labels on food items more. Please, Jorge, tell us all why some of us can lose 0 lbs. And I too, would like to know how long it took the people featured in your book to lose the weight stated. I like the science of this, but the reality doesn;t seem to be proving the premise.

January 15, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterrachel

I am so interested in what all of these guys have to say! I'm going on my 2nd week and haven't lost a pound but I'm sure it has to do with the fact that I am hypothyroidal so I went back to taking my perscription for the overactive thyroid in hopes that it will boost my metabolism as I have been really faithful about sticking to the S/C's every day. My husband has lost almost 5 lbs but not me! Also, I do Zumba and Body Sculpting exercises with weights a couple of times a week and bowl 3 days a week so I'm exercising - would that make a difference? Since I'm 75 years old I certainly don't want to stop my stretching and moving!

January 16, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterShirley

I felt that this was a very weak position to support your view. He is a journalist-no additional creditionals in the health care field. Jorge-you looked tense during the whole interview. I agree with your points , all of of them in terms of insulin control, but I do not feel that this interview strengthens those points. it was weak . I am a health care professional,on your plan, I have lost 20 lbs so far. If I was part of your PR group I would never have promoted this interview-it is very weak and does not emphazise the key componets of the plan.

I loved watching this video!!! I just purchased your book yesterday and have almost finished reading it. I plan on going to the grocery tomorrow and starting this plan right away!! I do have a few questions though.

QUESTIONS FOR JORGE:
1. After listening to the video I fear that 6 servings of carbs is a little too high? To lose the belly fat do I need to always eat the 6 servings a day???
2. My only other question or comment rather is similar to some other postings. So many of the brands of foods in your book I do not have access too. It would be so so so WONDERFUL if you could give more carb swaps for how to stock your kitchen with foods you can get at walmart!!!!!???!!!!!!!!

I am 23 years old, 5'10, and weigh 240. I need to lose about 75 pounds. My biggest problem and where the majority of my fat is is my belly. I hope this works for me. Please give some responses to my questions!!!!!!!

January 16, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCara

I am 59 ~205lbs and in good enough shape to spend two days skiing at high cruise & fat burning rates and still able to walk a day after the trip. I have been doing the 12 second sequence work out for two years now + bicycling, aerobic exercises etc. in between. My diet is 95% vegitarian but I allow myself a chicken burrger once in a while. I do drink 1-2 glasses of red wine per week. I take all the right supplements per Mr. Oz's books. In spite of all that, I still cant seem to loose the 15 to 20 pounds I started out to loose two years ago. I know mussle weighs more than fat and I am certain I have increased my mussle mass over this time but I can't seem to loose the weight. My sweets consist of stevia, agave and thise in the fruits I include in my diet. Thus I believe the majority of my carbs come from to good side and not the processed. Perhaps I am at my ideal weight for my age etc?

I will order both books and give them and another year and see where I end up. Thanks for passing this new information along to us all.

I like the earlier post about using foods from Walmart. If you want to create a diet that people can live on and stick with then center it around foods that we can actually buy. If insulin is the problem then why not just use one of those diet drugs that are supposed to control insulin?

I love this program. I've been on it since Dec 30th and have already dropped 7 pounds.. easy easy to follow and your recipes are GREAT! I believe we've been duped by calories in, calories out approach. It does work short term, as I've experienced that type of weight loss several times(WW, JC) but never seem to keep it off. We eat so much sugar everyday that it's no wonder we're in the shape we're in. Nice to see so many experts on a panel, would have liked a plug for your book as well. Big wake up call for our family came when we watched the documentary "food inc."- gave us a huge incentive to eat organic meat and veggies and an overall incentive to become healthy. Actually it seems to me that Dr. Weil isn't totally in your ball park nor Gary's but leans pretty much in that direction, of course, the video was just a snipette of the program. I'm reading The Belly Fat Cure right now and will be starting it next week, although I am watching things right now. I've been pretty motivated, since looking into this but must say, I was a bit disappointed, hearing from people whom the plan hasn't worked for in the first week. I must say, though, that I have lowered my S/C intake and am feeling better for it. Now, let's see if I lose some weight. I used 8 Min in the Morning program in 2008 and lost 13 kgs from 104 to 9 , and i maintained my new weight till June 2009, when unfortunately I started gaining weight up to 97 due to bad habits of extra eating junk food. I started using the 8 Min in the Morning program but am not feeling am loosing weight as at the 1st time. Maybe I need to get a heavier dumbbells or what? I like the sugar/carb limit idea, I ordered your new book of Belly Fat Cure and still waiting to get it very soon to read it carefully and get use of it. I want to be around 88-89 Kg, but I work in Qatar and here it's very difficult to maintain a good weight due to the hot weather which never allows you to walk or run and the fast-food addiction!

Thanks for keeping us informed, I really appreciate you and your books, many friends of me were amazed how my shape was totally changed the 1st time I used your program and I managed to "promote" your ideas in a very positive way :-)

be blessed.

Great interview but the music was a little off putting! I can't access any of the food brands that you recommend but still manage well enough. I am an avid label reader now! I despair everytime I see a new product advertised as low fat (so therefore, high sugar) and HEALTHY! These products are NOT healthy!
