What is your favorite sweet treat on the Belly Fat Cure?

Reader Comments (86)

I love using Xylitol in all kinds of treats. Recently I've made rhubarb/strawberry pie filling, and it's delicious. Substitute it one for one in any recipe. There may be some shortening of baking times in things like cakes. (also made a whole wheat jelly roll to put the filling on - YUMM!)

I'm loving Zevia pop too! I've lost 25 pounds in 5 months now using the Belly Fat Cure. My stomach is totally flat, and I've gone from a 38 pant size to a snug (but enjoyable) 34! I'm also eating healthier than I ever have before. I can't thank you enough Jorge for writing your book. I now know I have the power to stay skinny and eat healthy my entire life. I also know it was the sugar and the high insulin that was keeping me overweight. I only wish you had a customer service e-mail address, or some kind of e-mail that we could send you or your staff our comments or questions. That's one thing I believe is lacking with your book.

As a first-time recipient of these, I was really surprised to see the numerous typos on this page - misspelling Xylitol, growth.... We're trusting that you are doing research on things to make us healthy, so when details like this are missed on your site's links, it's disconcerting.
Dr. Steve Charnick, Ph.D.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSteve Charnick

Hi,
Just warning XYLITOL is VERY POISIONOUS to dogs!!!!
You can check that on the ASPCA website.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterHarriet

I totally agree with the post requesting a customer service/questions option. For example, I cannot find Zevia or Spry brands in my local stores. If someone knew whether or not they are available in Colorado, I'd love to hear from them. Also, as a retired teacher, I have the same problem with the typos that Dr. Charnick does. I want to believe and trus that the research being conducted is legit, but when the actual product itself is misspelled, it makes me wonder.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterNicci

This is worh repeating IF YOU HAVE PETS!!! Xylitol, even a small amount, is poisonous to dogs. I won't have it in the house because of this. Stevia works and won't harm my canine friends.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterjlb

Yes- I agree - got to watch the TYPOS!
I hear Xylitol can be less tolerated than Erythritol - we tried it, also a sugar alcohol and its great. I have to brag - I got my husband on this life style change - he had a heart attack at 38! He stopped smoking, but gained weight. He bulked about my new attempt for us to lose weight, since nothing really worked...but great news. On Belly Fat - he went from 242 over Easter to 228! He just did all his cardiac labs and his Triglycerides went from 500 to 226! All other labs fell to normal! Seeing results is keeping him motivated and he feels full and content. I have lost 7 lbs - not as quick, but getting there! Got to limit carbs after 3!

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLisa

I don't know - based on the definition of 'natural' (from a birch tree) - granulated sugar also fits that definition - It is a white powder from the sugar cane plant. And, cocaine is a white powder from a poppy plant. I think we need to be careful about using the term 'natural' when discussing sugar replacements.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterNatural

Hi! I have bought your book and in 4 days have lost 4 lbs and 1" off my waist. I would like to know the sugar and carb content in the Salsa Crema dressing that is used in the Taco Salad. I love the dressing, but since the S/C value is the salad and the bowl plus the dressing, could you just give the S/C values for the dressing. Thanks.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSue

How does Stevia compare to this sweetener?

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDotty Reinhardt

Whether Xylitol is mispelled or not----give Jorge room for error! I'm sure you have never made a typo on anything even though the information is totally correct! Right? Just be grateful for a system that DOES work...Maybe the BellyFatCure is not for you, but don't knock it for someone who needs it to see success for their lives. As for me, I am a very grateful client and thank God for Jorge and his research to make me a healthier person. Go Jorge!!!

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLois

Yes xylitol can be deadly to dogs even in small amounts, I won't have it in my house either. Stevia is a much better substitute for sugar. This needs to be repeated often until everyone knows about this for the life and health of all dogs.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCheryl

HHEELLLLOOO!! The Belly Fat Cure including Xylltol is for PEOPLE not DOGS!!!

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLois

I love Spry gum. I also love that we can have Reddi-Wip and berries now. That is the best dessert or treat. Just enough sweetness to keep me from blow my new lifestyle. Thank you Jorge and crew all your help. I am losing inches like crazy and I have you guys to thank.

I've been on the Belly Fat diet and I am having a hard time with it because I an Lactose intolerant. Most of our dishes and accented with cheeses, which I love but I can not eat. Is there any alternatives for cheese? Taking the cheese, sour cream, etc. out of the recipes makes a very dull meal. I also have a hard time with the Clemmy's and chocolate. I wish there was alternatives! Also, I livein New York City and there arent any stores here that have Clemmy's. I called the company and they said they do not have a distributor on the east coast.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle

I love Stevia! I've been on the path to weight loss since February, and discovered The Belly Fat Cure while shopping at Costco and got hooked on the system and variety of foods it introduced me to. So far, in those 3 1/2 months, I've lost 24 pounds!
Until I found the belly Fat Cure, I always thought I had to stick to a certain kind of food to be healthy, but with Stevia (instead of Xylitol since I have a dog), I'm able to enjoy all of my favorite foods, and not only lose weight, but lose it in amounts I never thought possible. I actually just came back from my annual check up and my doctor said I'm healthier than I've ever been in quite a while. ;)

How does agave or xagave compare? I have some really good dressing recipes using this sweetner and want to make sure that I am moving in the right direction.
Thanks

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCrystal

Lois states: " HHEELLLLOOO!! The Belly Fat Cure including Xylltol is for PEOPLE not DOGS!! !"

True, BUT if you drop some of those Xylitol candies or gum on the floor, or if you have a puppy who's curious and snags one off the coffee table, or your giving them to your kid who may feed them to the dog or accidentally drops them, and your dog eats them, you may end up with a sick or dead dog. Even chewed gum can cause a dog harm.
I won't have it in my house either.

p.s.Jorge, Groth (sic) Growth is also misspelled

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered Commentermary

To : NICCI..I found Spry and Zevia at Henry's and Clarks Nutrition Store, Don't know about Colorado but Most health food places will have it. Good Luck.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered Commentertink

I have found both Spry and Zevia at Whole Foods and Natural Grocers in Colorado (to answer Nicci's question) but Natural Grocers is a lot less expensive when comparing the two. I can't seem to find any of the ice cream, barbecue sauce, etc. mentioned in Jorge's book though in Colorado stores. I have found a couple of new Blue Bunny ice cream products in the last couple of weeks in King Soopers made with Stevia which helps when I have wanted a little ice cream fix in the warm weather!

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKristin

No one has mention that a common side effect is diarrhea (and gas). Sugar alcohols like mannitol and sorbitol also cause diarrhea

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLEH

Michelle, I hope you will see this reply about lactose. The lactose content of dairy foods varies quite a bit. Many hard, aged cheeses contain very little lactose, like cheddar. Full fat dairy products like cream and sour cream are low in lactose, but not free of it entirely. You may have to do a rotation diet with a nutritionist or doctor to discover your particular tolerance level. This is where you eliminate all sources of lactose from your diet, then add them back in starting with the lowest lactose products, like a serving of cheddar cheese. You wait 24-48 hours until it has passed, observing symptoms, and keep a journal, then proceed with the next lactose containing food you want to test. Depending on how little lactase (the enzyme in our digestive systems that digests lactose,) you may be able to follow a low lactose diet, or may require a lactose free diet. Again, this is best done under the care of a professional. You might find this pdf from the University of Va. helpful: http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/internet/digestive-health/nutrition/lactosecontent.pdf

If you haven't tried lactase supplements, that is one option. If, on the other had, the problem is not a lack of lactase, but an allergy to milk, you would want to avoid dairy entirely. Another possibility is the diagnosis of IBS, which is treatable with a modified diet, etc. I hope this info helps.

I would like to know if it is better to use Xylitol or Stevia. I have been using Stevia; I like how it agrees with my system-no gas.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBeth Appleton

W add Xylitol to Kool Aid just to get more of a variety when it comes to drinks.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDMyers

I think Xylitol is the best tasting sweetener out there. I have tried them all and I think Stevia is awful tasting. I bought a box of it and I ended up taking it to work to give away. I have a dog too but you just need to be careful around them. I have found Xylitol at Top Foods (I live in WA) and also at health food stores. I have also found the Spry products at health food stores. One thing about the gum though - it tastes good but loses all flavor in a couple minutes.

Here's a website of a company I've used for years & Xylitol & Spry & other products are available: www.vitacost.com. They have terrific customer service.

Jorge is my new hero.....I used to only have a couple pairs of pants that fit me, due to belly fat. NOW I only have a few pairs that fit because the rest are too BIG!! Thanks, Jorge!

Lois, yes, I've made typos in the past, as we all have. However, the others who commented on the poor grammar are correct: it makes the presentation look really unprofessional! Jorge, do you have an editor? I'm sure you know someone who is good with that kind of stuff.....use him/her! :)

I started in October to watch my sugar content reading Suzzane Summers book but I did not like to be limited on food combining but her information on what sugar does to our bodies was a real awakening for me. Then I saw the Belly Fat Book at Costco in January and started reading labels and was amazed at all the sugar I was eating. I added 30 min most days on elliptical on a regular basis in March and I have now lost 50 pounds. I went from size 22/24 to baggy 12's, moving into size 10's soon. I just got off a three week plateau at 159 but I kept my food journal and added a little more exercise this week and I am at 155.5 this morning.

I am 62 and had double By-Pass Surgery 9 years ago and let my weight gradually get more and more then realized I am too young to let my weight take away my life span. I am a true believer of this process, my husband is amazed, as he tells everyone, "She eats", "She not starving herself", but it does take commitment to want to be healthy. My mantra is "I deserve to be Healthy and Happy", I no longer put other things before my workout, anyone can take 30 min. for good health. I know for me without my workout, which also works out my stress level too, I know I would have a harder time to keep eating right and continued weight loss. I will say that Lifewater is a real treat and helps me when I want something sweet, I do not like the 85% chocolate that much so find a sip of Lifewater here and there does the trick for me. Being older I have found that keeping my sugar count around 10 works best for me in weight loss phase.

Thank You Jorge for bringing this Sugar Issue to our attention and "no worry" about the typo problem, many of us are the same, infact I always have my husband proof read my work most of the time.

Has anyone ever tried SlimSweet? It tastes great and is derived from the Lo Han plant (it is spelled mutilple ways in English). It doesn't have any after taste or that 'mint-like' feel when you inhale. It tastes the most like sugar but is sweeter. A serving size is an 1/5 tsp and has less than 1 g of sugar.
I find that it is best to have mutliple types of sweetners on hand as they each have their best uses.
You can get SlimSweet at iherb.com and if you use referral code UFI947, you get a discount (I think it's $5 off on your first purchase.)

Our whole family loves the Magical Mocha Blend which we have tweeked a little to suit our tastes! Great taste and great substitute for a "Frappucino" loaded with sugar! Thanks so much for starting us on a new way of eating!!! We are losing and better yet, feeling great!

Another way to 're-train' your sweet tooth is to drink lemon water or lemon tea every morning. Use either a real lemon (NOT that RealLemon stuff in a plastic lemon - sodium benzoate is a bad preservative) or use the frozen lemon juice (NOT lemonade, Minute Maid makes juice w/o sugar). Use 6 tsps of lemon juice in 8 oz of cold or hot water.

I have been on the belly fat cure diet for 5 weeks and have lost 20 lbs. I have eaten better than I ever have my entire life and feel fantastic. I am also excercising at least 5 days a week. I would like to get some recipes for cakes or brownies for my husband who is a diabetic. Do you have any besides the one in the book for choclate brownie cake?

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSara Thompson

I have the same problem Nicci, here in North Carolina I cannot find Zevia, Spry gums, Sparks, and Nature's Hallow brands. However, I found Clemmy's Ice Cream @ Harris Teeter and US Mill Uncle Sam and Ezekiel Cereals at Lowe's Food & Walmart. I lost 4 pounds in 10 days. BFC plan is easy and simple so.... THANKS JORGE with or without misspelling.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSG

Be aware that xylitol is made from corn--so if you have a corn allergy, this is not a good alternative.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSusan

Hi!! I find it funny how Nicci is concerned about Typo's and yet made a TYPO herself in her very next sentence...I am guessing she meant to spell "trust" and not "trus". Point being, we are all human and can easily make spelling mistakes (even retired teachers do). This is not about spelling guys, this is about changing your life!!! Give the spelling a rest already...

Jorge, love your book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those looking for something different to drink I have found that Skinny Water is very good. It has no sodium or sugars which is great because I have been diagnosed with diabetes a couple of months ago and am trying to adjust my lifestyle. The big thing for me was not only sugar products but sodium. This is the only drink that I have found that has neither. I have found it at Martins and Target. Not cheap but worth it if you want something other than water and do not want to use sweetners.

I have been a xylitol user for many years here in Australia and I get it online by the 2kg bucket. I only use it for cooking and my husbands coffee. We don't use sugar in anything else. We have a dog and have never had any trouble, he eats healthy food like us. I love getting your emails jorge and I think your doing a wonderful job, for the health of people in the world. If there were many more like you we would be a much healthier and happier world and wouldn't have to see so many doctors.
We have all been duped into the TV adds on bad food, instead of using our brains God gave us to think what we are putting into our mouths and onto our bodies. If only half of us read what was in packaged food we would be horrified!! We should be all carrying our bill boards and getting big food companies to come into line with what they are feeding a world today. It sickens me to think what the health of the next generation is going to be like if we don't start fixing it now.
Thanks again Jorge

Hi Jorge, what about sucralose, I see that in some protein powders that claim to be natural and low carb here in Australia? Thanks, Jeni

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJeni

I am developing sugar free ice cream because Clemmy's is not available in my market, and like Clemmy's having experimented with xylitol and stevia, I have found xylitol to be the better option. Stevia by itself has a little bitterness. That's why Truvia is 50% erythritol, also a naturally occuring sugar alcohol. Another is maltitol, which my supplier says can be substituted for corn syrup in recipes that call for it. If you are in North Carolina, or someplace that doesn't carry this stuff in the grocery store, go to Amazon.com. They have everything.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBob

For people trying to find certain products, just Google and write the company directly. That is how I found Clemmy's Ice Cream. Jorge's list of pdf on Xylitol also included a 25% off on Nature's Hollow. Just be sure to eat it up as my opened but refrigerated jar ended up moldy and I had to throw it away. At an est. $5 a piece that hurt!

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMary Lou

does anyone have the exchange rate for xylitol and malitol? Are they interchangeable? I cannot find malitol around and have xylitol. I would like to make the brownies and some other recipes. Truvia seems to have an aftereffect--not reallly an aftertaste or bitterness-when used in hot tea. I have cut back on my sugar since reading Jorge's book, but am having a problem with belching when using the truvia. Any suggestions? can't stand stevia. My family likes a lot of the recipes in the BFC book. One of my sons has a problem with the no-sugar diet since he needs to gain weight. I can't find a lot of the products in the book and I don't shop the internet. Can I just get like items that are low in the s/c area?

Thanks Jorge.

Jorge - What about erythritol, like ZSweet?

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLiz

OKAY , loving this diet. I think I would do even better if I knew how many sugars and carbs are in a martini or wine? Not that I drink a lot, but if I cut this daily cocktail out, would that help?
and what is the best and worst cocktail? Many of my friends have asked me about this, and I have no answer for them.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterdeb

I like Zevia, and I am firm believer of all the benefits of Stevia. I noticed that it has xilitol and that you are recomending xilitol. What about the stomach discomforts? Xilitol and any other sugar alchohols are known to cause stomach discomfort and even loose stools when cosumed daily or in bigger amounts.
Thanks

i love the Zevia and the ideas in the video, I'm not a gum chewer though. I was hoping for some other recipes for desserts or other treats besides gum and candies. I've discovered sugar-free Russell Stover chocolates and Tastycakes - both are made with malltilol. Another product with maltilol is Joseph's maple syrup. it's not widely known that xylitol is extremely toxic to dogs, so if you have dogs in your household, PLEASE educate yourself.

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDawn

I tried this plan faithfully for 2 weeks. As a vegetarian I found it very difficult also to consume all of the cheese and dairy products. (I try to be mostly vegan.) I didn't feel it was working for me. Any suggestions?

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDaneen

Michelle --- have you tried Lactaid tablets ?--- available over the counter when eating dairy products---works well. #2: Xylitol in some people can cause gas & diarrhea, as it is a sugar alcohol, especially when used in larger amounts

June 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterColleen

I prefer erythritol for sweetening my greek yogurt or berries that are not quite in season. Not gas or side effects. Malitol upsets my stomach and haven't used enough xylitol to give a good opinion. Don't like Zevia but LOVE Blue Sky Free Coke. Look for it, as it is cheaper than Zevia. One of my favorite desserts is to use the Hershey dark sugar free chocolates ( Trader Joe's Simply Lite), 1 or 2 pieces, and a serving of any nuts that you like. Melt the chocolate and mix the nuts in it. Yummy yummy yummy. You can also lay them out on a sheet of wax paper and put in the fridge until they harden. Sweet tooth fix and protein to get thru late night TV until bed.
