Thanks for these periodic emails and videos that reinforce the Belly Fat Cure Plan that we are following. I had successfully lost 37 pounds and 4 dress/slack sizes on the diet in only 4 months and have kept it off--and plan to stay at this healthier weight. It was the easiest plan I have ever followed, and the only successful one. And the idea of "community" is so true. I was fortunate to be able to discuss my plan and progress with family and friends as I started and continued on it, and their interest was additonal motivation. The three videos you shared today are also a timely support system. The reported connection of sugar to wrinkles and the general health and appearance of skin will be even more incentive to limit and wisely choose my sources of sugar and carbs for my lifetime. Please continue to share these informative interviews and research with us, along with your recipes and tips when eating out! (By the way, I adopted the espresso drink that one of your guest dieticians suggested, and it has become by favorite "coffehouse" drink: 1-2 dollops of whip cream topped with cinnamon piowder and further topped with 1-2 shots of espresso.)
Jorge, I read your book and I've almost lost 60 pounds following your teaching. I really appreciate your emails and your website blog because it reminds me that I'm not alone in my quest to live a better, healthier life. It just so happens that my friend across the cube wall from me at work read Gary Taubes book and has also lost a ton of weight. These are the first videos that I have watched in connection with your belly fat loss program and I certainly appreciate the informational content. Hard to believe, but my husband has started the program with me. This is the first time he has taken an active interest in a healthier lifestyle where he can understand the menu and the sugar to carb ratio. Your recipes appeal to him so I think we will be able to reach and maintain our goals. The concept of keeping your body in balance so you wake up feeling well everyday and maintaining mental health is extremely important. We both turned 60 this year and have plans to continue working, travel etc. That will only be accomplished by following a healthy but sustainable lifestyle.

thank you for the informative video's. I have recently re-started your program due to an accident I stopped. The video's I would like to point out bring out two very important points I have visulaized first hand working in a bariatric (overweight) surgical center. One of the surgeons I work with is studing the effects of insulin levels pre and post surgery to possibly predict success from the surgery in Diabetics. We currently promote a low carb diet and we have not found any increase in Cholesterol or risk fo Heart disease related to the high protein diet. Secondly, our patients who particpate in the group seesions following their surgery are far more successfly than those who stay on their own. The group is very beneficial.

I've been on BFC for 2 months and have only lost 15 pounds (wish I was getting the 9 lbs a week!) but I am so surprised and pleased at the changes in my mood and skin! I've been a sugar addict for the 47 years of my life and never thought I could give it up, but now that I have + quit the refined carbs I do not get the ravenous cravings for sweets. This is huge! Thank you for providing these valuable videos. I am one of these people that believed I could do it alone. I thought I did and lost 25 pounds just following the Belly Fat Cure book. Then, my refrigerator broke down. I did not purchase one for four weeks because I could not find the right dimensions. Consequently, I ate out for every meal, and I gained eight pounds. I felt unhealthy as when I carried the extra 25 pounds. My health concerns guided me to look for material to help me when dining out. Fortunately, I found The Belly Fat Cure Sugar & Carb Counter book to help me out. However, if I had seen your videos earlier, or asked questions from others on the plan, I might not have gained the eight pounds. The videos were very helpful especially the one with Dr. Perricone's message. They helped me center myself again to follow the health plan that had been so successful for me, even when eating out, and to include support from others. No matter how strong you think you are or that you can do it alone, there will be circumstances when you need someone else's support. You do need a support community!
Hi,
I have been using your diet plan and my one question is why do you leave out fruit. I struggle staying on any plan that illuminates fruit. What makes it so bad? Fruits have so many good qualities about them and it is a wholesome food. Could you explain the thought behind this?

I have to say Jorge, I was slow getting on board, but now after viewing your three videos, I am ready to stick with it. I am a loner, so it is hard for me to incourage myself, when there is something else I can do. But I need this. I am not obese, but I am at an age, where I fear, that if I don't do something, I will be. It runs in the family..... So I came up with this idea to copy your photo, and place it where I can see it during the day, as a reminder............ I am aboard for the duration!! I've lost 17 lbs so far, have lost all cravings for sugar and "bad carbs" and never obsess about food anymore. This weekend I tried on pants that I haven't been able to wear in years and they all fit! I absolutely love this program. I'm tucking in blouses for the first time in years, too.

I've been on the Belly Fat Cure lifestyle a little under two month ( start date 7/1/2010), I'm 55 yr. old and I'm down 13 lb. I also had that dry, crepe looking skin, a stomach that stuck out (like a pregnant ladies), and mood swings (thought this was from my morning cup of java). Now, I noticed my skin is no longer dry , I've lost 6 inches from my middle, and my attitude toward things that come up is a lot more pleasant (still drink a cup of java with cream but "no" sugar). Plus I thought I was getting fibromialgia with all the aches and pains of a 80 yr. old. Reading labels and keeping sugars below 5 gr. for all items I purchase (15 gr daily allowed on BFC), plus keeping a look out for bad carbs listed on those labels, make this one of the easiest lifestyles to follow. I no longer feel hungry all the time. Thank you Jorge and all the Doctors who promote a diet free of insulin, and who are educating us about the good carbs that won't stick and turn to fat in our bodies! My body is getting happier by the day!
I started the Belly Fat Cure on July 7, 2010 and have lost a little over 30 pounds in 1 1/2 months. It is very simple to follow and EASY! I don't crave sweets and bad carbs anymore, and have a lot more energy. I used to eat constantly when I came home from work-chips, chocolate, ice cream, etc., but being on this diet has helped me to make better choices and more satisfying choices. Thanks Jorge!!
I am sticking close to the carb, sugar amts. you suggest & have lost a little more than 5 lbs. I want to lose another 5 lbs. as I do not have a big weight problem. I am 88 yrs. old & in good health. It seems strange that you do not recommend any fruit even though fruit does have sugar. Do you feel that fruit is not necessary?
Well, that was just the boost I needed. Just started the BFC plan, so I spend a lot of time with your books and looking up everything. My community will be these emails as we have just moved and I know no one in this area. Sounds as if patience will be a requirement over the months that I will be learning the plan. I was following your program, Mr. Cruise, for a number of months. It was the most important element in helping me lose weight. For some reason, I have fallen off of the wagon during the last three weeks. I see that I must return to the basics and do the steps again. I have had conventional advice regarding the control of diabetes which dictates to eat less fat, protein and lots of carbohydrates. With your research and the evidence you provide - it's great to make an informed choice and know the effects of carbohydrates and sugar from a wider point of view -whether you have diabetes or not and how a person can lose fat and stay healthy and slim and regulate their insulin. Keep up the magnificent work.
Thanks for the videos. It is wonderful to get a boost - I lost 3 lbs the first week on the over 40 diet but gained back 2 of them since. When I started I was doubtful about limiting fruits and veggies but now I'm used to it because my decrease in appetite is VERY encouraging. I am also exercising more now - 5 days a week for about 7 hours total each week - and I'm feeling much, much better. But still, I'm not really losing any more weight, this being the beginning of week 3. I have been eating Clemmy's each night (1/2 cup) but sticking to the sugar/carb count etc.. Any suggestions on what could be the trouble with the plateau? Please don't tell me to stop exercising - it really helps so much to contribute to my positive feeling of physical well-being...and how do I get on your blog???

Jorge, I was part of the original group that started in April. Did great, lost 12 pounds, then LIFE interfered..... Traveled to LA; went to Mexico in the summer; have just returned from a 2 week cruise, and find myself back at square one. Help.... my biggest downfall is white wine at lunch and dinner!

A lot of people are asking about fruit. Jorge answers these questions in his FAQs:
"Fructose, the sugar found in fruit, has specifically been linked to belly fat; since it goes directly to the liver to be processed, it gets converted to fat and leads to visceral belly fat and high cholesterol. Remember that fruit was created in tropical climates and in earlier times was available only certain times of the year—now we have access to everything, anytime, which is not how it was intended to be consumed. As for vegetables, even though they have nutrients, they’re still carbohydrates that get converted to glucose and must be counted for belly fat loss.
Once you’ve reached your goal weight, you may slowly incorporate up to two additional pieces of fruit back into your diet. Limit it to no more than two extra pieces per day, and do try to eat local, seasonal fruit in its complete, natural form (with the skin on) whenever possible."
It is interesting about fruit. A few days ago I measured my waist again and noticed that I gained back a half an inch. I had lost three inches around my waist, but now it was only two and a half inches. So, I thought what am I doing different recently? Well, I am harvesting a bumper crop of tomatoes and I do love eating my organic heirloom tomatoes- I've been eating at least one large tomato every day. One cup of diced tomato has a S/C value of 5/1. After I read that, I realized I've increased my sugar intake! Just eating one large tomato is like eating an apple, it contains approx 15 grams of sugar. I still have to lose more weight, so now I am not eating so many fresh tomatoes. I'm still preserving them though. A few days later my waist measurement is back to the three inches that I had previously lost.

Not only did cancer cells prefer fructose, the sugar also triggered cellular activities that enabled malignant cells to use both glucose and fructose more rapidly." The article goes on to say "....high-fructose corn syrup - often listed as glucose-fructose on ingredient lists-has been a boon to the food industry. It's cheaper than table sugar, easier to blend into foods, and tastes sweeter." "....rats with access to high-fructose corn syrup gained significantly more weight and had higher blood triglycerides than those with access to table sugar(sucrose), even though their overall calorie intake was the same."
I'm just a little confused. I understand how refined sugars are bad for you, but I still can't get it wrapped around my brain that a banana is bad for you. How is this highly nutrient dense fruit negatively affecting the body?

I want to jump on board but after reading your book and cooking some of your recipes I'm still having a hard time with the high fat content and fact that a handful of tortia chips is preferable to a banana. The handful of tortia chips has almost 0 nutrients.
How do you maintain a healthy weight for a lifetime by removing nutrient dense fruits?

I am 70 yrs old, and belly fat was always my problem, although I was never more than 10 or 20 lbs. overweight at any point in my life. I have a picture of when I was 3 yrs. old and looked pregnant! I started your diet 3 months ago, have lost 15 lbs and 5 inches from my midsection and all this in spite of a month of travel, eating in restaurants and other people's homes. Your guidelines are clear, easy to follow and work. A winning combination! I feel so much better too, I now look forward to again including some fruit in my diet :-)
It has been 7 days and I've lost 4 lbs and 2 inches off my waist. So far so good, but I am 70 lbs over weight and I get discourage if I gain of don't loose every day. Am I suppose to loose everyday or is there a period you just stay the same? I had 2 days of that. Does it matter that I 64yrs? Is it hard for older women to be successful?
Ok. So I missed something. The subject line on this email was "Hot Flashes, Belly Fat and Bad Skin: The ONE and only fix" -- Hot flashes are something I'm dealing with and I'm miserable. I'd do just about anything but take HRT to stop the Flashes. I watched the videos, but I didn't see/hear anything mentioned about Hot Flashes. Can someone help me out here? I'll admit I'm slow to get on board The BFC because I'm having a challenge with the learning curve. Somehow I have missed how to get support from others in this community and I feel a bit lost on how to really get started.
O.K., wow! You gotta read these numbers!!! I am 51 going through menopause and I just got back my blood test results since being on the BFC for 4 months! Cholesterol went from 194 to 165! Triglycerides went from 87 to 75, HDL went from 76 to 76-no change. Cholesterol/HDL ratio went from 2.55 to 2.17.
My weight was around 145 and the doctor said I was 127!!
I went off the plan for about 3 weeks and I dont feel very well, that is my energy level is down and my digestion is "iffy." Plus the hot flashes are more intense for me since I have been eating the sugar again. I am interested to see if they lose their "heat" when I resume the diet. My Doctor is sooo pleased with my efforts. I am not on any medication either.

Thanks, Jorge for the timely update. I am so happy to have joined the BFC community. I have lost about 15 # and have maintained this loss over the last few months. Just the other day my mother commented on how my skin was looking better (I hadn't noticed!) And somewhat related, I went for my first dental cleaning after starting the diet, any my hygenist said that my gums were the healthiest she has seen them and that the plaque build up was minimal.
Less sugar/carbs really does help. Thanks for making me healthier and lighter!
My sister gave me her book of the BFC. It was the best gift I have ever received in my life. I have lost 10lbs and up to 4" off my waist in 1 month. I have never experienced this kind of success before. I am thankful for the BFC community videos and postings as it motivates me and supports me thru my weight loss and better health journey.
