I grew up as the only boy in my mom’s water-aerobics class (clueless then… makes sense now!). As a Catholic gay Latino man and proud father of two sons, my story took time. I was married for nine years to an incredible woman—my boys’ mom—who supported me completely when I finally understood who I was after reading Gay, Straight, and the Reason Why, and Ricky Martin’s book, Me. Those books helped me accept that being gay isn’t a choice, no matter what I was told growing up.

Even before Tony Robbins wrote the foreword to 8 Minutes in the Morning, we were friends. He treated me like a little brother and even met my beautiful mom, Gloria—the heart of my life’s work.
